One of the most beautiful roads of Europe

Toulon has a beautiful harbour, this is one of the most beautiful in Europe. The old town is picturesque. The famous three-dolphin fountain located in the middle of the place Puget. One of the few cable cars on the seafront in the world to reach the Summit of mont Faron.

Brief summary of history

After the recovery of the France Provence, Toulon becomes a place of shipbuilding under Charles VIII and its harbour is used to House military fleets. Vauban fortified the city which receives the Mediterranean squadron of King Louis XIV. Toulon is with Brest, the only port capable of accommodating large warships in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Toulon was the point of departure and arrival of most of the great expeditions military and colonial French to Africa during the Ancien Régime and the 19th century. For example, the expedition of Egypt led by Napoleon Bonaparte sailed from Toulon on 19 may 1798.
