An indefinable charm

Labeled "Most beautiful villages of France" Mirmande is a typical village of the Drôme. Hidden behind the walls and in a maze of alleys, Mirmande houses have retained their beautiful facades of stone and their old doors. The view is outstanding on the mountains of the Vivarais and the Rhone Valley. The famous vulcanologist Haroun Tazieff was Mayor of Mirmande from 1979 to 1989.

Brief summary of history

Mentioned as early as 1238, the village of Mirmande is a former property of the Adhémar who ceded it to the Bishop of Valencia. In the middle of the 14th century, the town develops. A second wall is still visible.

In the 19th century Mirmande develops avec(l'élevage dele de ver à soie qui fait vivre près de 3'000 personnes.) Then with the decline of this economy, the village is experiencing difficult times. But Mirmande reborn thanks to the many artists who settled there. In particular André Lhote (1885-1962), Cubist painter and writer, contributing to the revival of the village of Mirmande.
