The village of Vonnas

Vonnas is classified "Village fleuri four flowers". Water is omnipresent in the village, the Veyle and the fame are two popular rivers for fishermen. Vonnas is a must for its gastronomy with the «Village Gourmand» of Georges Blanc and his restaurant three stars in the Michelin guide.

Brief summary of history

During the antiquity Vonnas is a relatively large village. Gallic and Roman remains are found at different points of the municipality attesting a life it seems prosperous. On dénombra eight castles and strong houses built on the surrounding hills. Today only remains Béost and Epeyssoles castles. 1272 and until the Treaty of Lyon in 1601 which returned to the Kingdom of France, the Bresse belonged to the Duchy of Savoy. After the French Revolution, in 1793 the parish of Luponnas was attached to that of Vonnas.

Georges Blanc, a Mecca for gastronomy

Chef Georges Blanc comes from a dynasty of renowned idealing cookers with her grandmother Elisa white nicknamed "the mother" and his mother Paulette white. Pancakes vonnassiennes made from mashed potatoes were invented by the white mother. The House George White is now the formerly star facility in the world without discontinuity, it has still its 3 stars.

According to the Michelin Guide 'the inspiration of Georges Blanc, it is la Bresse and its chicken, sauces to deep, scholarly cooking tastes revealing the flavours'. Also can be eaten for a smaller budget (€23 to 60) in its other restaurant «Bistrot the Ancienne Auberge 1900» with retro décor in memory of the hostel. It is located next to the famous restaurant.
