Bandol, an attractive seaside

Paradise for water sports, Bandol is an attractive resort. Its harbour trees and flowers, its exotic garden famous for its cactus and its large sandy beaches. Bandol has developed a tourism of quality thanks to its particular brightness and its mild climate.

Thomas Mann, the brothers light and Marcel Pagnol called the first famous tourists of Bandol. They know Bandol in the world. Mistinguett, Fernandel and Raimu, Henri Salvador there chose their resort. Today, the Bay of Bandol is one of the jewels of the French Riviera. A meeting place for rest or the feast with the rhythm of the seasons.

Brief summary of history

But Bandol disappears at the end of antiquity as a result of the barbarian invasions. The population fled to the villages of the Interior. It is only at the beginning of the time modern Bandol reappears. King Henri IV donated to a brave soldier Antoine de Boyer, the territory of Bandol with Bendor and Rousse Islands. The descendants of the Boyer family create in 1715 a village with seven pioneer families. Thanks to the famous Bandol wines (known at the table of Louis XV), Bandol is developing strongly.

The island of Bendor

Beal island is located opposite the town of Bandol. It was uninhabited until the early 1950s, it was built by the industrialist Paul Ricard. Of a surface of approximately seven hectares, this private island is home to hotels, a Congress Centre, restaurants, shops, a yacht club, an international centre of diving and beaches. The island has activities and sights that attract many admirers. The glass blower who continues the tradition. Statues and frescoes adorn the buildings. The international Museum of wine has 8,000 bottles from around the world.

Bandol (AOC) wine

The wines of Bandol terroir extends in amphitheatre of the massif de la Sainte Baume, to the Mediterranean. The vineyard Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), it covers about 1500 hectares. It is planted on the terraces (terraces) and it enjoys sunshine nearly 3000 hours per year. The white wines are presented in a clear straw yellow colour with aromas of lime and broom. The reds are characterized initially by aromas of red fruit, they acquire after breeding of aromas of truffles and undergrowth.

The Œnotheque of wine from Bandol, in front of the casino game of Bandol, is open every day except Sunday afternoon from 10: 00 to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 18:30.

The Zoo and exotic garden of Bandol

The small Zoo and exotic garden overlooks the Bay of Bandol. One discovers hundreds of varieties of exotic, rare or strange. The garden has a beautiful collection of species of cacti of South America and Central America. Also tropical plants amazing coming from the five continents.

We view animals at the discretion of the alleys of the Park. Macaws, cockatoos and Red flamingos. Also and marmosets, gibbons and capuchin monkeys who entertain children. On view of ocelots, small cats of South America and meerkats.

Dolce Frégate golf

The Dolce Fregate golf course is one of the most beautiful courses in Europe at the heart of the vineyards and olive groves with panoramic views on the Mediterranean Sea. The golf course is designed by architect Ronald Fream. The frigate's 18-hole course is a par 72, with 15 holes with views of the sea. For beginners a 9 hole the Frégalon course is a par 29. The golf course is open all year round. 50 posts of practice in free access. The golf course is located 5 km from Bandol.
