The domaine du Rayol

The domaine du Rayol is a natural protected area of 20 hectares located on the corniche of the Moors. Classified "Remarkable Garden", it is one of the most beautiful sites of the var coast. It offers a journey through landscapes inspired by the world of Mediterranean climate regions: Mediterranean, Canaries, California, Australia, South Africa and Chile.

Brief summary of history

The history of the estate began in the 1910s, when a rich Parisian banker Alfred Theodore Courmes had built a beautiful art nouveau villa. It was surrounded by an exotic garden and a monumental Pergola. All covering an area of seven hectares and has been saved from real estate speculation in 1989 by the Conservatory of coastal areas and lake shores. The garden was completely redesigned by landscape architect Gilles Clément. The domaine du Rayol has "Remarkable gardens" labels and 'Label 20th century'.

Animation

The domaine du Rayol presents permanent exhibitions and guided tours. It also organizes the celebration of seasonal changes, a feast of plants and musical evenings in summer.

The underwater life in the Mediterranean

The small beach at the domaine du Rayol is the starting point for a original and exciting discovery of the underwater life in the Mediterranean. This visit is accompanied by instructors from the Conservatory. It is preceded by a presentation of the main marine species likely to be encountered.

The closing time varies according to the seasons:-January, February, March, November, December: 5.30 pm.
