Latin Roma Rome. If the history of Rome extends over twelve centuries, that of its Empire covers with them only eight and its unitary character is indisputable only for approximately three centuries. If its extent is considerable, the settlement remained there weak (a hundred million inhabitants).
Rome accepted a whole heritage: that of the age of ancient Greece, and could it assimilate, resident receptive with influences as well Celtic as Semitic, Christianity being the most known aspect of these last.
