Hugo de Groot, known as Grotius
Lawyer, theologist and Dutch statesman. Hugo de Groot. After having occupied of important functions in its country, he was condemned to the life imprisonment for theological reasons, then escaped in France where he published, in 1625, its great work Of belli ac pacis swears and where he was named ambassador of Sweden in 1634.
Grotius is one of the founders of the modern international law and the rationalist theory of the natural right on which lawyers and policies were based during two centuries.
