“Our ancestors, the Gallic ones”, the pupils learned from the French public school until in the years 1960. This idea today is largely demythologized: the Gallic Celts are only one group among others which took part in the training of French people, at the sides of the Romans, the Visigoths, Burgondes, the Francs, Breton, of the Norman ones, without forgetting some Arabo-Berber which remained several decades in the area of Narbonne or that of Toulon, after the VIII ^E century.

The specifically Gallic origin of the French is a construction of the historians of the XIX ^E century which, following the revolutionists of 1789, wanted to erase the part played by the Francs - “cruel” and ancestors asserted by the nobility of the Former regime - in the construction of France.
