He attends the Saint-Michel college then the universities of Lausanne and Munich until the doctorate in right (1906). Lawyer (1908), public prosecutor (1911-1916), captain of infantry, it is elected with the Council of State in 1916. He takes the Management of the Police force and the Worships (1916-1927) then that of the State education (1927-1932).
He is among the founders of the New Swiss Company (1914) and takes part in several conferences within the framework of the League of Nations . To advise national since 1919, president of the conservative party Swiss and elected, in 1932, with the presidency of the National, it surprises everyone while announcing, in November of the same year, his withdrawal of the public life. He enters to the Benedictine abbey of Sainte-Marie of Pierre-which-Transfers (France) where he passes the remainder of his days. Ordered priest in 1937, he is prior in 1950-1951.
