After studies with the colleges of Freiburg and Schwyz then at the university of Geneva, it is named cantonal chemist (1888). He sees himself entrusting the responsibility of the institutions of research (dairy station) and of teaching joined together into 1906 within the agricultural Institute of the canton of Freiburg and quil directs until 1927.
He teaches physics and chemistry at the domestic Teacher training school of Freiburg. He chairs the Board of trustees of the chocolate Factory of Villars (1906-1929).
Founder and writer of the Chronicle of agriculture and milk industry (1888-1920) then of the Freibourgese Peasant (1920-1927), he is cantonal secretary of the Freibourgese Federation of the companies of agriculture and member of the committee of other agricultural associations or jurys. He chairs the Freibourgese Company of milk industry (1909). He publishes several handbooks for teaching.
